The Commitment to Begin
On Mondays, I choose a quote that resonates with me and share it in hopes that it will serve as a dose of inspiration to start your work week.
Throughout November, I will be focusing on courage in action. Whether you are guiding a team, navigating change, or stepping into what’s next, I hope these weekly reflections offers a space to pause, refocus, and lead forward with clarity and momentum.
Last week, we talked about how life has a way of opening doors, often before we feel ready to walk through them. Opportunities rarely wait for “perfect timing.” They show up in motion, asking us to take a step even when the path ahead is not entirely clear.
This week, let’s talk about what it means to take that next step. To move from seeing opportunity to courageously responding.
“Courage is the commitment to begin without any guarantee of success” ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Uncertain times call on us to make a commitment to starting, even when there’s no guarantee of success, just a whole lot of courage on our part. Courage doesn’t promise comfort. It doesn’t promise immediate results. However, it does offer movement, the kind that turns intention into progress and fear into focus.
So often, we hesitate because we are waiting for confirmation, for proof that things will work out. But what if confirmation comes after the commitment? What if the act of starting is the signal that creates clarity?
Courage asks us to take that meeting, write that post, send that proposal, start that new chapter, or voice the idea that’s been sitting quietly in the background. The fear may not disappear first, but it’s deciding that something else takes priority over the fear.
This week, I offer a few questions for you to consider:
Where might you be hesitating until you feel certain?
How might beginning (even imperfectly) create momentum where there’s been hesitation?
Momentum doesn’t wait for guarantees.
Here’s to committing to begin, and to the courage it takes to move forward without certainty, but with purpose.
If you are navigating transition or leading through uncertainty, I would love to support your next step. Reach out to explore how coaching or team strategy sessions can help you lead forward with clarity and momentum.
Until next time…
