When Staying the Same Costs Too Much
On Mondays, I choose a quote that resonates with me and share it in hopes that it will serve as a dose of inspiration to start your work week.
Throughout November, we’ve been exploring courage in action. How we move from noticing opportunities, to beginning, to following through even when the path ahead isn’t clear.
This week I want to talk about a different side of courage: the courage to acknowledge when staying the same is no longer serving you, your team, or your mission.
“Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” ~Tony Robbins
In whatever aspect we are leading, there’s a moment when the familiar becomes limiting.
Whether it’s a process that’s no longer working, a decision delayed for too long, a team dynamic that needs attention, or a way of working that once made sense but now feels out of step with where you’re headed.
Staying the same has a cost. And often, that cost grows quietly.
Overwhelm is not always from change itself. It comes from unclear priorities, unresolved tension, and decisions waiting in limbo. Here, courage doesn’t mean making sudden widespread moves. It means being willing to look honestly at what’s no longer working, and choosing to move toward what will.
This week, I invite you to reflect on the following:
Where are you holding on to something that’s slowing you down?
What might begin to shift if you allowed yourself (or your team) to move toward what’s needed rather that what’s familiar?
What is the cost of staying the same?
Clarity often begins the moment we stop resisting what we already know.
Here’s to the courage to release what no longer serves, and to take one small step in a direction that does.
If you are navigating change within your role or within your team, I would love to support your next step. Reach out to explore how coaching or team alignment sessions can help you move forward with clarity and momentum.
Until next time…
