Counting My Blessings

"Live your truth. Express your love. Share your enthusiasm. Take action towards your dreams. Walk your talk. Dance and sing to your music. Embrace your blessings. Make today worth remembering." ~Steve Maraboli

Three weeks ago I attended the funeral of a close family friend. Last weekend I learned about the passing of a family member and yesterday I found out about a friend's daughter having to undergo surgery - she's doing well post surgery.  Life has a way of sending red lights, causing us to stop and take stock of our lives. Too often we get caught up in the busyness of life and shift focus from what's most important to us. The above along with other experiences led me to really evaluate how I'm spending my time and what I'm devoting my attention/thinking to and where they fall in terms of what matters most to me.

So often we worry and stress over things that seem large at the moment and when we look back, we see that our responses were much larger than the events. We hear a lot about gratitude journal, if you haven't, check out Oprah's network. I don't believe it's just an activity about making a list of all we are grateful for, but it's about expressing our gratitude in our words, actions and interactions. So, think about who's most important to you and let them know how you feel about them, find time to spend with them and hold on to the precious moments and memories. When I look at where I am today, I can only express appreciation to the people who have in their own way, played a role in shaping my life. To all the wonderful people who have planted seeds of encouragement, wisdom and every so often a get over it- thank you!

Are you devoting your time and attention to what matters most to you?
